Must have been about 2-3 decades ago on british tv--- This series based in the dark ages had an abbot or monk type character who went through various sexual conquests with the lower orders of nuns etc in order to gain his social ladder or position in a monastry.

In the end events caught up with him thats all I can remember.

    Any ideas much appreciated.

it was not 'Cadfael or 'The monk'

It does sound like The Decameron or Canterbury Tales, but they are neither TV series or British.

But I do recall a series on in my younger day that I didn't bother with and then cursed my luck when I heard, too late, that it had sex (gosh!) in it.

There were a lot of Italian movies that came out in the wake of the movies mentioned above. They used to be extensively covered in magazines like (ahem) Cinema X and Continental Film Review...

Still a working actress, it seems. I always associate her with the title THE FRUIT IS RIPE, yet it was actually Betty Verges who was the star of the film, with Olivia in a supporting role in her debut. I'd recommend VANESSA if you want to see more of Olivia Pasal...it's the best of those late 70's German softcore films that she starred in. She's in Borowczyk's BEHIND CONVENT WALLS but I don't remember her from the film.

Absolutely not! You'd know why if you'd ever seen Jess Franco's film...not something likely to crop up on television!
