Despite contacting them directly, it seems impossible to get hold of any of the black and white programmes I watched for many happy years in the 70s, particularly in science and maths. If anyone can get their hands on some, maybe from an ex student, it would fill a huge hole in my collection.

Allan Solomon (physics) and Kiki Warr (biology) were particular favourites, I wonder if anyone else remembers them? Even some radio programmes would help from Radio4 at weekends.

I used to work for the OU and I think a great deal of the programmes are 'lost'.

The BBC are no longer there but I don't know if the masters went with them or simply vanished.

There's an archive of programmes in the campus Library but I'm not sure how extensive it is.

That's a shame if they were all lost, that usually translates to 'recorded over' to save tape, or worse still thrown away.

I've seen the Youtube one, it's never the same as the real thing though...

    Hi all,

I know this is an odd one but does anyone have any old Open University programmes?

I have quite a few and am always willing to swap.

    Hope someone can help.

    Cheers

I have one in black and white, showing a chap with NHS specs, a woolly jumper and a beard explaining the intricacies of particle physics using a flip chart and a large ball as props....Interested ?

    Hi again,

Is there anyone out there with any Open University programmes? As you can see the two posts above were not serious.

Any help at all will be appreciated.

I've just spoken to the archivist directly, they said they still have many of the programmes but was no commercially viable market for them. But the good news is when I told her the following she's now considering releasing some on Youtube. Fingers crossed.

Great piece of work Anorak1960. If the archive lady can get something moving, that would be a great result. I've noticed the OU are advertising on blinkbox. I wonder if they might be interested in adding it to their free content.

I have now found a company who has added OU programmes to their general children's programmes collection. They don't have a website (no idea why) but if anyone wants a DVD let me know and I'll pass on the details. I've seen many of my favourites but so far not managed any of the first set in black and white.
