Simply Media has taken over a lot fo the old DDVideo titles and now MovieMail has a lot of bargaintastic 1940s films that have previously been slightly tricky to get hold of on Region 1. Highlights include Q Planes, Millions Like Us and the little-known, but excellent Unpublished Story

I have most of those titles - all that I want from the existing range anyway. My hope is that Simply will now take up the mantle of the release schedule that DD had planned - "Gideon's Day", for example.

No, the Sony/Columbia deal with them is dead; they've already started to release some of the titles on that old DDHE list themselves, so there is hope for Ford's policer.

That is going to be my word of the week. I'm going to work it in everywhere. As I start work part time in a posh shop next week - I might have some opportunity.

    I've been practising:

Can I interest you in this vase? It is Guzzini and therefore, bargaintastic. I like it.

Sorry about that. Not really going to do that, of course.

Going to get back in to work mode:

Stop having conversations with self on forums.

    Stop being stupid.

    Get dressed before 10.

I'll shut up now. Please continue with the matter in hand.

Get dressed before 10? Why? That's one of the joys of working from home. I can have conference calls with powerful people in big organisations and they don't know that I'm just sitting at home in my robe

Luckily they never ask for a video conference

This is the amazing thing about (crappy title) Teleworking and still quite a rare thing even after several public pushes by the Government to get industry to have more people working at home, also backed up by research that people from home actually work harder.

    We certainly do

We have an office in North London, but it isn't used much. We just use it occasionally for meetings and as a place to hold some of our development systems. The main systems are hosted at a secure data centre. We have a team meeting every few months when we all attend to check on how things are going and to plan for the next few months. That's also a chance to catch up socially when we all go out for a meal and a drink. Apart from that, some of us will meet up every so often but most of the time we just communicate by phone and email.

Of the main people in our team:

One chap lives in Cornwall and only comes up to town for the big team meetings.

There's an Italian chap who spends his time in Milan or London.

There's an American lady who recently moved to Aberdeen.

We have others in Germany, Switzerland and other parts of the UK

There's me in SW London, near Wimbledon - it takes me an hour on the tube, each way, when I do go into the office so going there 9-5 Monday to Friday would be a huge waste of time. I can just sit here at home with a fast internet connection (20 Mbit fibre optic cable) and I can deal with clients all around the world. Today I've been working in Australia, South Africa & Tanzania as well as in the UK and Europe

It works well for us. We've been doing it for the last 10-15 years and we're still in business

I think you do work at a more concentrated level when actually working. But the lure of a quick whizz around Waitrose has always been too much for me.

I think it depends what you are doing, if it interests you and you are well motivated by it - i'm sure it can work well. But, at the moment, I'm looking forward to getting back out there and charging around the city.

I have have just heard that another job I have taken on involves a certain famous person.. which I am very excited about and was unlikely to just appear in my living room so I am very excited about that starting.

But, yes, advantages - just being able to decide what you do and being able to skulk off if you're really not into it that day - is priceless!

(Although, the last job I had from home before recently, I couldn't do any of this at all So, yes, it depends what you do.)

One of the contracts I had, I didn't actually see the guy for about 18months but was in contact sometimes several times a day, regarding the graphical interface (and some coding) to a spread betting piece of software and that was sweet.

But it still didn't compare to the Money Programme edition some time ago where the guy who worked for a London office, just got up, walked across the hallway from his bedroom to his computer room and if he walked a bit further (with dressing gown on) could stand against the railings looking into a French stream from his palatial house which cost less than his four bedroom average house in Surrey that he'd got shot of.

They are painfully slow with delivery though, ordered a whole bunch over a week ago and just checked my account and at last they are " being packed ", still at those prices it'll be worth the wait.

I think the DDVideo ones weren't all released on the same day - I got a couple last week and two more came yesterday. Presumably they save money by having fewer packers?
