This one has been bugging me for a while as it was a play/film that was on TV not so long ago. The main part of the plot I remember was that two men were on some sort of boat trip/ferry in either somewhere like Outer Hebrides or the Nordic Fjords. The trip arrived and everyone went onshore for a walk around - waering life jackets. The two men ended up, I think, on a beach near a cliff where they had a fight. One of the men was killed and the remaining man went back to the boat, ditching his own lifejacket and claiming that of the dead man, so that when everyone disembarked at their final destination, and the life jackets were counted, he would not be under suspicion.

    That's all I remember.

This sounds like the plot of the Barbara Vine (aka Ruth Rendell) novel "No Night Is Too Long" which I see was adapted for TV in 2002.
