It's the EDGWAREBURY HOTEL Stevie, now the Corus Hotel, Elstree. If you do a search on Edgwarebury in the forums you'll find a bit more info; I think I left some pics in one of the threads as well.

Last time I was there the staff were very welcoming - they let me wander round and take whatever pictures I wished, even though I'd just dropped in whilst passing.

It was also where Ian Carmichael and Terry-Thomas play tennis in the proper version of SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS...

I was last there on 1st July - that afternoon SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS was on CH4. The lad on the desk was very interested in the hotel's film history and said he'd ring through and get someone to record it for him...

It was nice to meet somebody working in a location who was keen to know more about it.

There was a crew based at the Edgewarebury that day and the were filming not far away- didn't manage to find out what it was though.

Always wondered if alot of the scenes in these movies were filmed in Hertfordshire. The countries lanes and houses etc.

If you enter 'Edgwarebury' as a Forum Search you'll find lots of info in threads re; the Edgwarebury Hotel, one of the principal locations in THE DEVIL RIDES OUT.

I assume THE GHOUL would be filmed around Middlesex/Surrey as (IIRC) it was a Shepperton Studios film.

Check out Jonathan Rigby's book ENGLISH GOTHIC- it gives a fair bit of detail about where UK based horror pictures were shot.

It was indeed and the eccentric car was parked out front. A more recent appearance (the inside this time) was as the hotel in HOT FUZZ.

It turns up quite frequently - a lot of the old ITC 60s tv shows such as RANDALL AND HOPKIRK (DECEASED) feature it at some time or another.

I've seen the inside of the hotel featured quite a lot without the use of the outside - the leaded windows and wood panelling are quite distinctive. Pop in for afternoon tea on the terrace when you are in the area.
