The house WAS in Chepstow Rise, Croydon.
I say was because the house along with the others in the street have since been demolished and replaced.
I've been meaning to ask on this forum for a while, and was reminded by another thread, and also by this film's regular appearances on TCM.
I'd love to know the precise location of the house from this haunting film. According to IMDB it's in Penge, but is that true? I'm sure I heard it was in South Croydon somewhere, but I could be wrong. Can anyone help, please? Thanks!

Chepstow Rise!! I grew up not far from there, in Forestdale.
What an awful shame it's gone. I've been wanting to visit that location since I first saw the film. Oh well...
Many thanks for your response, Marty.![]()
I had intended a visit too as I love the film, but when I found out about the redevelopment I thought the same as you..what a shame...those big old houses would have been cherished nowadays.
In the scene where Gerty gets a ride on the motorcycle you can see the road sign says Chepstow Rise.
That's when I thought ah...Chepstow Rise Croydon and looked at it on an aerial map and thought..no can't be the same one, looks too different, but I was informed by someone on another forum..can't remember which one, that it's the same Chepstow Rise.
Here's an aerial shot of Chepstow Rise as it looks now:
The house would have been near the bottom right hand corner , near the junction with Chichester Road
