They were quite a few who did that at some time or another .... Marlowe didn't AFAIK .... he wore a shoulder holster.
Or around his sock/shoe in tv show around later 80's early 90's? Was it philip marlowe? thanx!:)

Not many would carry their main gun in their shoe or sock. But a lot carried a backup piece therename='detectivehunt']Or around his sock/shoe in tv show around later 80's early 90's? Was it philip marlowe? thanx!:)

The only one I can recall who did regularly was Darren McGavin in The Outsider. He was an ex-con and wasn't officially allowed to carry a gun, so he wore one taped to his ankle. That was made in the 60s.

Not TV nor 80's/90's, but 'Popeye' Doyle did in The French Connection.
There was a 1980s Popeye Doyle TV movie .... maybe Ed O'Neill did the same in that.
Nothing to do with guns in socks - just a thank you to batman for supplying that photo of Darren McGavin. Are you old enough to remember "Riverboat"(early '60's) where he starred as the captain of a - riverboat. His second in command was played by Burt Reynolds! And Reynolds became the big movie star - there's no justice.

I am a bit too young to remember it when it was broadcast, but I have seen it on DVD. Excellent series, as was The Outsider. DM was a fine actor.
