    Could anyone identify a TV play [possibly Armchair Theatre] starring Anthony Bate ,1970s/ 1980s. He played a tax inspector or accountant who was ' bumping off ' his clients superb piece of television.

    Any help most appreciated'

    Very much a long shot but there was an ITV play in 1976 called Nobody's Conscience. It seems to have been part of a series with the generic title of 'Murder'. Anthony Bate was in it as well as Mark Eden who played a policeman, so I guess he wasn't the murderer and Bate probably was! Leslie Sands and Patricia Haines, first wife of Michael Caine, also starred. The BFI synopsis says that it is about a nest egg hidden away that results in murder. I guess an accountant or taxman may have an interest in their client's life savings!
