There are some very good chinese fantasy movies - Rouge, Mr Vampire, A Chinese Ghost Story etc

Does anyone know one about a young woman who wanted to be in "the opera" but parent or guardian wouldn't let her?

Also, one to do with insurance where a woman died from going off the roof (I think). She may have appeared as a ghost to the insurance man who didn't want to pay out. Something like that anyway. I think there was washing out to dry on the roof and that was the reason for being there.

Could the "opera" related one be Audition? Complete shot in the dark.

Could the second one be "The Black House"?

Not either of those, but nice try. 'Mine' are too light hearted.

There are several on IMDB called 'Audition'. None sounded like it....but one did refer to a 'Tootsie' style plot. It reminded me about the one I'm thinking of in that the woman who wanted to be in the opera may have disguised herself as a man.

The insurance one is a bit of a comedy, not horror.

    Thanks for the effort though.

You're probably thinking of Ronny Yu's THE PHANTOM LOVER (1995), especially considering Leslie Cheung also appeared in two of the other films you mention, ROUGE and ACGS.

    This is Ringo Lam's ESPRIT D'AMOUR (1983).

Just been checking...I don't think it's Phantom Lover aftare all. Shame.

The other one is certainly Esprit D'Amour. I also found another one I liked. Spiritual Love.
