The couple have been together for 12 years
Northern Irish TV presenter Eamonn Holmes has proposed to his partner of 12 years, fellow presenter and This Morning host, Ruth Langsford.
The proposal was revealed on the ITV1 show after viewers spotted Langsford's engagement ring and e-mailed in.
The star said Holmes asked her to marry him on a city break for her 49th birthday on St Patrick's Day.
The couple have a seven-year-old son together called Jack, and plan to get married next year.
Holmes, 49, who was standing in on This Morning for usual host Phillip Schofield, noted that many people already thought the couple were married.
'Emotional'
In a statement, Langsford said: "I'm so thrilled. We've discussed marriage many times but this was an incredibly romantic and heartfelt proposal which I will never forget.
"It came as a complete bolt from the blue and I said yes immediately. It was very emotional - we were both in tears. I collected my ring yesterday and I'm just so excited."
Holmes added: "I adore Ruth. Ever since I first met her I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.
"I'm slightly embarrassed I haven't got round to it before this but one day last week I looked at her across a crowded room and fell in love all over again."
Langsford, who presents This Morning every Friday, has been lined up as a possible replacement for departing host Fern Britton.
Holmes, who left the GMTV sofa in 2005, now presents on Sky News.
He has three teenage children with his ex-wife Gabrielle, who he divorced four years ago.
