Help sought to identify the following please:-

1955/57 Film about a young couple refused permission to marry, elope to gretna green in a MG midget, pursued by her father.

Anyone know the name of the film and the girl please. I thought she was Janette Scott. She is the right age but can find no reference to her making anything like that

    Many thanks in advance, Mike

Was it definitely an MG Midget? I'm no car expert but according to this page, they didn't appear until the 1960s.

Eloping to Gretna to marry at 16 was well known for centuries but the film was probably inspired by a scandal in the 50's when Isobel Patino, a Bolivian heiress and pregnant to boot ran off with James Goldsmith. If my memory serves me well it was in all the papers Jade Goody style and it affected the nation momentarily.

    Isobel died in childbirth unfortunately.

Thanks for your answer but real MG Midgets as opposed to rebadged Austin Healeys were around in the 1940's and probably earlier.

This was probably a TC or TD of late forties origin.

However it's the girl I'm really interested in

    Regards , Mike
