44 Inch Chest brings together many of the actors and the writers from the British Ganngster Movie 'Sexy Beast'.

The movie is due for release in June this year and tells the story of a jealous husband and his friends who plot to kidnap his wife's lover with the intention of restoring his wounded ego.

Among the cast are Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast and The Departed), Ian Mcshane, John Hurt, Joanne Whalley and Tom Wilkinson.

Also eagerly awaited is Harry Brown, a kind of British Gran Tarino crossed with Get Carter. Harry Brown Stars Michael Caine as a retired Royal Marine whose close friend is brutally murdered on a run down London Estate. Caine as in Get Carter seeks his revenge against the perpetrators of the crime.

Other British Movie news relating to the Gangster & Crime Genre includes the announcement that two acclaimed books are to be made in to films.

Firstly Ray Winstone, David Thewlis (Gangster Number 1) and Anna Friel are set to join Keira Knightley and Colin Farell (In Bruges) in Irish Writer Ken Bruen's "London Boulevard." William Monahan (Screenwriter for The Departed) directs the crime drama this summer in London, with financing coming from Graham King's GK Films.

The other adaptation is McMafia by Mischa Glenny.

McMafia is to be made by Working Titles and starts with the murder of a stockbroker in England. Though it initially seems inexplicable, tracing the threads that lead to this crime uncovers a worldwide tapestry that includes Ukrainian gun runners, Saudi Arabian money launderers, Canadian drug dealers, Brazilian hackers, Japanese racketeers and the big, bad Bulgarian power players, decked in bling and twisted so far off of any moral axis they are truly terrifying.

    Chests in movies:

In "From Hell to Borneo" in the first half hour of the movie, George Montgomery is talking to Torin Thatcher about the tropical island he is going to inherit. While speaking, George's eyes suddenly fall upon a painting of a lady with considerable cleavage in Torin's study in the movie. Right at that point, the camera is still focused on the painting while George mentions the word 'coconuts.' In the background we hear Torin laughing.

I had to share this one.

Just caught this one last night. Great performances all round - particularly John Hurt and Ian MacShane - which compensated for a slightly disappointing film. Only 90 mins but seemed longer. The elliptical/fractured narrative worked well and held the attention but less than the sum of its parts.

Agreed - some powerhouse acting going on, but a rather weak story. It is like a stage play filmed with scant regard to opening out the action - oddly it was written for the cinema.

I have to say I thought Hurt was channeling the late Wilfred Brambell at times! It was like Albert Steptoe doing Pinter!

From the writers of the infinitely more interesting Sexy Beast. I think they got carried away with the shouty psychodrama aspects of the piece and forgot that the film should actually be about something.
