It's your browser, I reckon. If you're writing a large post, copy it to clipboard before hitting that REPLY button, then if your browser crashes or logs you out, you can still paste it again.

after composing a detailed reply to one of
the threads I post ...... a window comes
up you are not logged in ...
I did log in about 10 mins ago but the software
must be set to cut peoples log out after about
10 mins
The outcome is I lose all that post, I went back
but the writing I d done was gone !!!!
this has happened before but its absurd
there must be some setting that can be changed
thanks for wasting my time

With respect I disagree.... I think it is the Brit Movie forum settings, I ve experienced this before in here...
ie written a detailed ( and brilliant ) reply
only to be forced to sign in again , then going back
to see my writing rubbed.
Im a member of tons of forums and its only
here that this has happened .
This has happened to me in this forum, too, except that I did not lose what I had written.
It's based on the time when you aren't doing anything as far as the forum is concerned. You might be composing some long essay but the forum will only see it when you hit that Submit Reply button. The timings are set that way for security reasons. If it's been a while since you last read a page in the forum then, as Captain Casper suggests, copy what you're about to send so that you can post it again after you've logged in again.
Although as ShirlGirl says, you should be able to go back a page in your browser (just hit the Back button) and your message should still be there. Iif it isn't then that is a strange setting in your browser.

Which browser are you using? As Steve says, hitting the back button (in Internet Explorer press your backspace key). This should take you back to previous page with your magnum opus still in the reply box. If not, then your browser is clearing the cache and automatically refreshing every page. which is just stealing your bandwidth.

We've been here before!
No, Captain Casper, the back button in IE doesn't show your painstakingly written brilliant post...
I'm not sure why the "security settings" Steve mentions have to be set at such a short time (10 minutes or so?) Why not make it 30 or 60 minutes? I don't have this problem at any other forum-based site I contribute to - and TBH it's extremely annoying

So that's why I got "bombed out" after a short period. I am also a member of several other forums and none of them have such a short disconnection period.
Mr. D.
yes, theres really no need to have
people harrassed by these settings
for eg the sign in
you can allow people 2 attempt s at sign in and
then force a wait of 15 mins... but why do this
you can also set it so they have 50 attempts at sign in
it s all there in the software
the edit for eg. in this forum you have about 15 mins to edit your post if you wish... no time atall
Im a member in other forums and there is no time limit ... I can go back in 5 years time and edit my post.
Its all in the forum software... there's no need for
all these restrictions.
we r'e dealing with links, we re dealing with text
it's tiny byte sized stuff and quite insignificant in
the grand order of things............
Isn't it wonderful that so many people know more about the forum than the people that run it
Yes, there are various things that are possible. There are also many reasons why they aren't done like that

Moon. (who has no stock options )
have you ticked the 'remember me' icon?
When I log on I get a message saying I have entered the wrong screen name or password, yet I am logged on as I can post and reply.Ticking the remember me box has no effect as I have to log in every time.My ISP is the dreaded AOL could this have something to do with it?
Go into Control panel and move the little slider bar for cookies in Internet Options.
And get rid of IE, especially if you're running Vista which automatically updates to IE8 the second it became available despite it having more bugs than the Brazillian raib forest.
