I currently have it as a torrent file (I think that's what it is) on my laptop and can watch the film. How do i get it onto a DVD so i can watch on the telly? or should I be trying to wire up my TV and laptop. Help please!

I use Convertx2dvd. Once you've downloaded it, you simply drag and drop the necessary files and it will copy them them to a blank disk which you can play anywhere. I used the version that costs c20 but there may well be freeware that does the same thing

Get the free burning software Imgburn fron the net. Burn the torrent file to a blank CD, (doesn't have to be a DVD)

If it plays in your DVD player you are up and running. No need to convert.

That will only work if the dvd player supports the format of the torrent file. The OP doesn't say what this is, but i assume its divX or Xvid in an avi container. And it's probably still more likely in the UK at least that the player won't suport it. It would almost certainly have the "divX" logo on the front of the unit if it did.

ConvertX2dvd is good i understand, but DVD Flick is also good and very easy to use. It's also completely free :-)

Wiring up the laptop to the telly (via s-video and phono audio leads, perhaps) might also be a good idea if practical, and you wouldn't need to re-encode under those circumstances.

Get a cheap DVD plaver that plays multiformats cost about 21 from E-Buyer

burn file on CD if less than 700mb or on DVD as data disc.

    Hey presto!

It works, did it myself as I had down loaded quite a few movies from a peer to peer file sharing site.

2nd player is useful for copying and playing while main one records. This solution is not technical and players are freely available these days.

I quite agree about the cheapo player. I bought one from Aldi for virtually nothing and it plays anything I throw at it. As for torrent files, when I have one I put it on Roxio Toast (I have a Mac PowerBook) and burn a disc. Then I put the DivX disc that results on the Aldi player and copy to DVD-R on a Panasonic DVD recorder. I can't help feeling that I am having to do one copy too many. How can I get the torrent film to a DVD-R disc in one move? Thanks, Aphra

Convert2Dvd does the whole thing in one go - you just open the software and drag the files you want to copy (it tells you when there's too much for one disc) and shove a blank disc in the player. Takes about half an hour per disc though. Works the same for copying from disc to disc.

Thanks, I see the price is down a bit on their site. However, I can glean no information as to whether it will work on a Mac. It seems to be PC orientated. Do you know this is so. Thanks again.

Sorry didn't realise you had a Mac. Looks like the answer is no but there's an alternative suggestion here (and an amusingly rude response )
