Please can somebody identify this horror movie that I must have seen in the cinema in the late fifties or mid-sixties. The scene which sticks in my mind has a large landscaped garden with statues, so probably the garden of a stately home in real life. As the hero or heroine in a panic runs through the garden in the evening (it is dark but not night-time), the heads of the statues turn to look at him/her.

    Sorry I can't remember more........

Sounds a bit like "Night of The Eagle" (1962)

I agree that it sounds a bit like The Innocents.

More like Robert Wise's 'The Haunting'... You imagine everything is alive, even the statues...Try running that on your own! Film Man

Not really a horror movie, although it does involve a garden of statues and a hero and heroine. One of the statues does appear to move but this is down to editing techniques i.e. crossing the 180 degree line.

i think it's more likely to be 'the innocents' out of the two although i don't remember the staues actually moving.

The OP may have got the original The Haunting mixed up with the dire remake, in which the statue heads do turn.

Not suggesting it was a horror movie, but it had an obvious eeriness and melancholy about it.I love the film. And I was certainly reminded of Marienbad when I saw The Day Mars Invaded Earth, for some reason !! (see my Imdb review ot TDMIE for confirmation !)
