Is it Don Levy's Herostratus (1967)?

A friend from America asks about a film from the 70s or 80s -- an "art film", he thinks:
"It was an independent Brit film about a down & out young man who becomes so depressed by life that he decides to commit suicide. One [of ]the things that makes him melancholy is an encounter with a little ragamuffin girl who has as her only toy a miserable doll, lacking a head. He weeps. Then, having determined on self-slaughter, he decides to capitalize on it commercially and goes to a corporate executive to see if money can be made by publicizing his suicide. At this point I departed the theater."
This review confirms that the would-be suicide, Max, does encounter a little girl:

It is sadly ironic that Michael Gothard who played Max took his own life in 1992.

Apparently meant to be receiving a release from the BFI this year.
Sounds promising! Thanks -- I'll ask the guy if this sounds right.
