Alan Bennett is one of my favourite writers, he's what some folk would call a national treasure. Has he been knighted yet? It's long overdue, or is he still classed as "a bit anti-establishment " because he sees through all the crap and just tells it like it is?

He actually declined a knighthood in 1996 haveing a few earlier also declined a CBE.
As you say a national treasure, went to see his " Enjoy " recently and it was oh so impressive![]()
