    Michael Gambon and Alex Jennings will plays repectively W H Auden and Benjamin Britten in Alan Bennett's new play for the National Theatre provisionally entitled The Habit Of Art, the play is due to open in November.

    Hopefully some of it will be devoted to their collaboration on Night Mail - didn't they have some sort of falling out after it?

    Alan Bennett is one of my favourite writers, he's what some folk would call a national treasure. Has he been knighted yet? It's long overdue, or is he still classed as "a bit anti-establishment " because he sees through all the crap and just tells it like it is?

    He actually declined a knighthood in 1996 haveing a few earlier also declined a CBE.



    As you say a national treasure, went to see his " Enjoy " recently and it was oh so impressive

    IIRC he has declined a knighthood.
