Apparently on the DVD release of "The Naked Civil Servant", there is a clip of an old Granada programme about Quentin Crisp from 1971....

Does anyone know what the programme was.....or if still available?

Have you seen "The Naked Civil Servant"..?

    Cheers

This would have been the 1970 World in Action Programme about QC in his bedsit in Chelsea, London. He used to say the secret about not dusting is holding your nerve. World in Action was made by the excellent Granada television which went on to make The Naked Civil Servant.

The WIA programme is also on You tube,

One of the good things about this forum is people unintentionally remind others of great programmes that they'd forgotten. I watched all three parts of WIA after I read your question. A classic in interviewing style, quiet, unobrusive and interesting.

Many years ago I read the autobiography of Quentin Crisp and was enthralled by it. I was equally enthralled by the The Naked Civil Servant on television with the wonderful John Hurt. It stuck very closely to the book and from then on I followed the progress of the great "queen" .

I remember watching this when I was a teenager and I think that was the first time I noticed John Hurt, (the second time I noticed him was in Alien). Quentin Crisp was quite a character and I would have like to have met him!!!

Yes quite a character....not many like him around these days........

Check out John Hurt in these other great films................

    "10 Rillington Place"

    "1984" with Richard Burton.....

and of course "The Elephant Man" with Anthony Hopkins.

    And in:

    10 Rillington Place (1971)

    Midnight Express (1978)

    Champions (1984)

and in just about everything else he's ever done

He's always worth watching, even if the rest of the film isn't very good

I never knew that Quentin burst onto the national scene as

    early as 1970 !

Yes , dusting and Mr Sheen just were nt his thing.

But yes, his autobiog shows him to be a considerable writer and

raconteur... very well written as I remember, top marks Quentin.

He did nt go in for cooking either his kitchen cupboard was full

of tins of Complan that he mixed with milk and drank each day.

His theory was ....why mess about peeling potatoes and cooking meat etc

when a glass of complan and milk gave him all the food and vitamins he needed to survive.
