Can anyone help me. I am looking for the title of a second world war film about a british female spy dropped behind enemy lines in europe. I don't have much to go on. I remember she was hiding in a hayloft on a farm and she was sending morse code or radio messages telling HQ what direction the german planes where heading, sometimes Coventry and then the film would show scenes from the coventry blitz. When the Germans intercepted the radio signals they raided the farm and finally found her hideout in the hayloft, she had booby trapped the radio and she made a bolt for it but was captured in a field just before she could swallow her cyanide capsule. she was then taken to gestapo headquarters and interrogated and tortured.

I watched the film on TV in the early 1980's and would say it was made in the 1970's or maybe earlier. Sorry its not much to go on but i would appreciate it if someone could put a name to it.

There's quite a bit of torturing and interrogation in Odette though I can't remember how she is arrested. In Carve Her Name with Pride there's a shoot-out if that rings a bell.

Could it be from the mini-series A Man Called Intrepid (1979)? In this, Barbara Hershey plays an allied spy who is caught and subjected to some sort of water torture, before being shot, I think.

Just read a brief synopsis which said that Barbara has a cyanide pill hidden in a tooth, but when the Germans find her in the woods, they knock her out before she can swallow it.

Odette (Anna Neagle) and Peter Churchill (Trevor Howard) were arrested in their hotel rooms - by Marius Goring. No chase and no shoot-out

It is definitely A Man Called Intrepid. Great mini-series. I watched it for the umpteenth time last month.

We have had this question before, the Barbara Hershey character is based loosely on the real-life heroine, Noor Inayat Khan.

I was thinking it could be the TV drama Diana (1984) but I'm probably way off.

Definitely not "Diana". That was a much gentler, wartime romantic drama, based on R.F. Delderfield's novel. No captured radio operator and no interrogation scenes.

The answer to the original question - the captured radio operator, the massive air raid on Coventry and the water boarding interrogation - is "A Man Called Intrepid", without any question.

Although they say self praise is no recommendation, Wartime spy films is the only genre I have any real in-depth knowledge of.
