A film probably made in the 1940's featuring a young lady possibly working in a department store at the cosmetic counter. She gets to know a customer and they both fall in love. It's the sort of film Cary Grant would have been in. I sort of recall a scene where they are possibly going to meet up outside somewhere like an office block but they possibly both turn up at the wrong time and miss eachother. Maybe their schedules/work patterns do not allow them to meet up often enough. I very vaguely remember the guy waiting outside and possibly getting soaked because it was raining.

Another longshot but it could be Yield to the night,Diana Dors meets Michael Craig while working at a perfume/cosmetic counter and they do get soaked out in the rain in one scene, but Michael Craig as/in a Cary Grant type character/film might stretch the similarities and the storyline of Yield to the Night just a bit too far.

Unfortunately not, although the film I'm looking for must be quite similar. Exactly the type of film Cary Grant or James Stewart would have been in.
