A slight problem with this title is that it had to be cut to get an A certificate in 1975 and the Derann video version is taken from this censored version. I haven’t seen the films other UK tape release on the Market Video label but as it carried a PG certificate I assume that was cut also.
I do have the Derann tape, plus an additional risqué scene with Luan Peters that doesn’t appear in the A cert version, if this is any use feel free to PM me.
Saw this back in the seventies as a second feature at the Odeon in Glasgow. Very good film, i can't for the life of me remember what the main feature was.
Director Megahy also directed some good Lovejoy's with McShane.

Yes, I'm wondering if anyone can help me. A good friend suggested that the film buffs who inhabit this mighty forum might be able to help in some way. The Freelance is a quite obscure British film from 1971, starring a young Ian McShane. I have the tapes of the music, which is all abstract and jazzy. Someone has even posted a musical clip up on youtube. Anyway, I have spoken to the music publishers who can only find reference to a company called "Freelance Films" who I believe would have started up and then stopped as soon as production was over. I am now trying to track down which current film company might actually own the film. Anyone got any ideas?
Freelance is a rather good 70s crime thriller and Ian McShane gives a very good account of himself. Britmovie's own Harry Fielder makes an appearance as an angry husband cuckolded by McShane. I have no idea who own the rights but DVDRs of the film can be obtained from the usual 'alternative' sources.
Wasn't this distributed by Butcher's? Quite a good one anyway.

Yes, thanks for the replies. I know this info already thanks to imdb. No one seems to know who owns the film though...
Now I come to think of it, MGM recently had an online vote on which of various films to issue on DVD, and this was amongst them. So they own the rights in the US at least. It was on their site but I just had a look and its gone now, voting must have closed.
Yes, I was hoping this wasn't going to be the case. Thanks.
