has been announced as a Region 1 release by Sony, along with several other groovy long-lost late 60s/early 70s titles, (Model Shop, Summertree, Pursuit of Happiness, Love and Pain...) several of which played here recently on Simply TV. They're due out on Sept 8th

Many thanks, wideboy. Is that Sydney Tafler in your avatar?

I think Multi-Region video players are becoming more and more essential as the Americans are so far ahead of us with some DVDs. I've recently bought the complete series of The Twilight Zone and Volume 1 of Peyton Place, and am aware that The Spy Who Came In From The Cold has a TWO-DISC version on R1.

To return the favour for that exciting news:

It will be fascinating to see Hywel Bennett and Jane Asher together. And, of course, Leigh Taylor-Young, who had just made a film with Peter Sellers that I liked called I Love You Alice B. Toklas. Was she married to Ryan O'Neal when she made these films? IMDB says yes! From 1967 to 1973.

You are right. Take for example Monty Python's Flying Circus. The complete series is now available on Region 2, but up until recently you could only purchase them on Region 1 - all we had here were highlights. Bearing in mind these are BBC shows, it always struck me as odd why you had to buy US discs for a British programme.

Hello again, Carl. You'd be amazed just how little the BBC have cared about some of their history over the years. I do believe that it's only in the last twenty that they've regretted wiping thousands of their shows. You mention Monty Python, but at least it escaped the 'TV Holocaust', probably on account of being in colour. The first time I became aware of a lost 'classic' was Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's series Not Only ... But Also; indeed, the video compilation that they promoted just before Peter's death was called The Best of What's Left of Not Only ... But Also - a few episodes and extracts I believe.

ALL of which has nothing whatsoever to do with The Buttercup Chain (my fault for singling

out Region 1), so, as recompense, I'll include this interesting still from the film. Jane looks

GREAT, but Hywel's weird beard does not:

I'm guessing that the blonde-haired actor is Sven-Bertil Taube, who also appeared in

the film Puppet On A Chain, as well as Upstairs, Downstairs. How interesting!

It is indeed, tho I really should find a better picture, preferably from the film Wideboy in which Sidney plays the title role.

Many thanks for excellent pics from Buttercup Chain - agree about the beard!

My pleasure, wideboy. Maybe Hywel was trying to look like Manfred Mann!

I might have a good photo or a new capture of Sydney for you in the next few days, which I'll either post at hhhancock's 'Avatars' thread or 'Forgotten Character Players'.

I hope The Buttercup Chain won't be one of those DVDs that stays at 8.98 for ages. I'm still waiting for Petulia to drop down from that price. 3.98 will do for me.
