Having watched the Open most of yesterday, someone seemed to mention that Tom Watson is 59 - can this be true?

Yes, and he's still leading going into the final day!

Is that old for a golfer? I know nothing about golf but seems to me you can compete at any age!

Has nobody met irony before? Every time they mentioned Tom Watson they always added the fact that he was 59. It got right up my nose.

The fact that Tom Watson is 59 is much more than significant. The oldest player to win a major in golf was 43 I believe. To consider that he almost did it may be the most incredible sporting achievement in history.

As a golfer a year older than Tom Watson I find his display beyond the incredible, it's almost supernatural!
