I presume that's an invitation to any of us Mr S (not just A Pemberton) so I will try out my cryptic effort at long last if that's OK.... (I will wait forever otherwise since I'm clearly rubbish at solving these things!):

    King of New York?

Not that one but it certainly fits the clues and the second picture is part of New York. There are four words in the title.

Thanks Roger, also for the excellent clues. Feel free anyone; it will take me some time to concoct another one. Tonch, why not give it another try?

    Best,

Speaking of Doug Fairbanks, Jr. I read his autobiography Salad Days last week and quite enjoyed his charming anecdotes about his life and career. For a good looking fellow, he was surprisingly humble, honest about his flaws and especially his insecurities that stemmed from having Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. as an unappreciative father, which I was sad to read. I recommend the book.

No. The Salad Days (1988) was his first volume of autobiography, and it only covered the twenties up to 1941. His next volume A Hell of a War (1993) covers his WW2 and governmental service. He died in May 2000. Reports don't indicate whether he was working on a third volume and if it would have covered the 1963 Duke of Argyll case.

Based on no evidence except Fairbanks' frankness in his first volume and his ongoing writing (articles, introductions, etc.), I will guess that he was working on another volume of autobiography (or at least had outlined one in his mind) and eventually would have written about that period including the Profumo dealings. His account would certainly have been interesting.
