obituary, extract:

In 1936, Beverly Roberts starred opposite Al Jolson and Sybil Jason in THE SINGING KID and in the same year smouldered opposite a young Humphrey Bogart in the Warner Bros potboilers TWO AGAINST THE WORLD and CHINA CLIPPER.

"Bogey was marvellous," she said. "If he decided half way through a picture that the director wasn't doing his job, Bogey would take over."

In 1937, after Bette Davis turned down the role, Beverly Roberts played a female lumberjake in the romantic drama GOD'S COUNTRY AND THE WOMAN, but by the end of that year she was disillusioned with the roles she was being given.

Promised leads in major films were given instead to Olivia de Havilland and Bette Davis. Her last film before going freelance was DAREDEVIL DRIVERS (1938).
