did anybody see the expose of derek martin aka charlie slater from eastenders in the sun the other day about him appearing in the 1975 film diversions ?

very scurrilous i thought ! his credit for that is on the imdb and in plenty of film books so its hardly news and a lot of actors and actresses took part in those sex comedies quite a lot of which were re edited a bit raunchier for foreign tastes in overseas markets which is what happened with this one .

it must have been a slack day in murdoch towers to only have derek to try and destroy for a movie made half a lifetime ago

Yes - very odd and he didn't even appear in any of the film's nude scenes as the article was forced to admit !!

I was surprised that when the Ross/Brand/Sachs thing blew up about Sachs being a saint no-one dug up some of Sachs' old roles such as in Pete Walker's Frightmare in which he gets killed in the opening scene.

It's nothing new. They did the same thing to Patrick Mower a while ago over his appearance in Tinto Brass' Monella (1998). I also remember Olivier taking some flak for his appearance in The Betsy (1978) when it appeared on video in the 80s. I suppose they have to keep digging this stuff up because celebs are getting wise to not getting their bits out in front of webcams!

I watched Confessions of a window cleaner on Comedy Central on Sky last weekend and i couldn't help wondering why such well known actors such as John Le Mesurier and Richard Wattis (his last role) would appear in these type of films.John Le Mesurier would have been in the middle of the Dad's Army run at this time so it wasn't for a lack of work,or was it?

Anouska Hempel who starred in Tiffany Jones and Black Snake has bought the rights to both films to keep them out of circulation.

The British film industry was on it's knees in the 70s and the main productions were the sex comedies, TV spin-offs and Bond. Although the money wasn't great it was still better than TV or theatre work, and you only had to spend a few days doing your bit if you weren't one of the leads. I remember Jill Gascoigne saying that the two days of work she did on a Confessions... film enabled her to put down the deposit on a house. Acting is a job like any other at the end of the day and the prospect of a nice little earner for a couple of days work was a gift from the Gods to most actors.

Tiffany Jones - available [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00008T2DK/i0ce-21/]from Amazon[/ame] (Amazon marketplace)

    IMDb comment:

The original Tiffany Jones newspaper strip won plaudits for its wit and style. Written and drawn by two female fashion journalists, it told of the exploits of a glamorous model, Tiffany, and her friends Jo and boyfriend Guy, and epitomised the free spirit of 'Swinging London'. Unfortunately this seems to have been completely jettisoned in this rather tedious adaptation. Instead poor Jo and Guy are relegated to a brief appearance at the start of the film, and then disappear for the duration. Tiffany gets embroiled in an attempt by a deposed foreign royal to overthrow the dictatorship which has taken over his country. The makers of the film seem unsure how seriously they should take the story, and how much sex and nudity (which is after all the only reason most people will be watching) to throw into the mix. One can only speculate what Fiona Richmond's producers, makers of probably the best looking sex films of the period, would have done with this story. Or how it would have been handled by the more low-brow creators of the 'Confessions' or 'Adventures' films; doubtless the clothing would have been lost with more panache than happens here. Anouska Hempel does not have the knowing sexuality of a Fiona, nor does she have the dizzy wide-eyed innocence which might also have worked. Instead she is reduced to reacting to everything that happens to her as if it was an everyday occurrence. The viewer is left with a feeling of regret for what might have been.

Legit VHS copies and DVDRs of Tiffany Jones crop up quite often on sites such as ebay and ioffer. Black Snake is more difficult to track down, but their are copies out there.

I can understand why Ms Hempel would want to keep them out of circulation (especially now she's a fairly succesful interior/hotel? designer). I refer you to a previous post I made in the 'Worst British Movies You Have Ever Seen' thread:

Whilst gathering films with Bill Kerr in I have had the misfortune of watching 'Tiffany Jones'. Mercifully I have managed to forget most of it but just remember Anouska Hempel being intolerably smug, Onslow/Twiggy playing a 'comedy' foreigner and what I suppose was meant to be the grand finale with lots of naked women round a swimming pool and it just being grey and overcast with a mass of pasty white flesh and sagging cleavage and Richard Marner; can't imagine it was much of a turn-on for anyone.
