Could it be Rhino by David Leyland?
E.
I have a very vague recollection of this programme but it always stuck in my mind; it was aired around 1982-1984 and may have been a one off drama. It focused on an anti social boy of around 12yrs old who bunked off school and hung around shopping malls and parks. It was filmed almost like a documentary and one scene I remember was of the boy being sick in a toilet cubicle. It was quite graphic for the time. He was skinny and pale and mis behaved. I am not sure but he may have had another boy as his partner in crime. Sorry I cannot remember much else but it always stuck in my mind as it was very realistic and poignent as you ended up feeling sorry for the kid even though he was a bit of a tinker.

That should be Leland and Rhino is in fact about a girl truant. Leland wrote other plays in similar vein about young people and school like Flying Into The Wind, Made In Britain and Birth Of A Nation.

similar to BLOODY KIDS (1979), dir. Stephen Frears
there's a Children's Film Foundation production called "Terry on the Fence" (see the screenonline website for details) which is very gritty (especially considering it's a CFF film, most of which were "safe") and could be what you're remembering - it was made in 1985.
Thank you for all your replies. I looked into Bloody Kids, Terry on the Fence and Rhino and unfortunately they're not the one I was looking for. I wish I could remember more of it. It seemed to be more of a documentary/one off drama as opposed to a film. If I remember correctly, the kid was being sick in a shopping centre toilet (this could have been because of something like sniffing glue or drinking underage), and every time someone tried to help him he'd swear at them or cause havoc. He was a little rebel and could have had behavioural problems. He was definitely in a school uniform.
