Kate has starred in many popular series, such as The Brothers, Howard's Way and Dynasty. I especially like her in cult episodes of The Saint, in particular the episodes The Fast Women and The Counterfeit Countess. She was also in a memorable episode of The Persuaders! entitled Read And Destroy and gave a superb performance as a drug addict in The Champions episode To Trap A Rat.

Like Kenneth Cope there is some confusion over her birthday. IMDb lists it (and I think Wikipedia as well), as 10th August, whereas Aveleyman lists it as 8th October.

Which is likely to be right?

    Cheers.

Looks like it is the 10th Aug. - someone at the BFI checked the birth records:

    BFI | Film & TV Database | O'MARA, Kate

In Britain we would write 10/8/1939 for that date, but in the States they would have it as 8/10/1939, which would look like the 8th of October to us!

Thanks for the info Euryale. I never twigged the dates might be reversed.

    Cheers.

Being as a few have mentioned The Champions episode on Michael Standing's thread - me included - I thought I would bring Kate's thread alive again. To Trap A Rat was I think, one of the best episodes in the series. Kate was brilliant as a drug addict. She looked desperate enough to pull the role off and I honestly think that's been one of her best performances..

I also love to see Kate and Alexandra together as they are both all-time favourite actresses of mine. As well as The Champions they appear together in an episode of The Saint called The Counterfeit Countess, which just happens to be one of my favourite Saint episodes as well. I'm sure in both cases it's because they are both really exciting stories. It does help having so much glamour on show as well. Kate appeared in three episodes of The Saint in total.

Kate has also had Cult TV appearances in Danger Man, Return Of The Saint, The Protectors and of course, The Persuaders! Kate was in the episode Read And Destroy as one of Joss Ackland's wives. The other was a lovely Polish actress called Magda Konopka, whom I know little about. Actually a third wife was mentioned from Reading! Lucky Joss!

Kate appeared in a western called The Desperadoes with another favourite of mine. This time actor Kenneth Cope.

Oh I just watched The Desperados quite recently, it had a very strange cast indeed, Vince Edwards, Sylvia Syms, Jack Palance & Neville Brand also featured as well as Kate & Kenneth. Despite the best efforts of The Brits involved it was desperately bad, with Jack Palance at his most dementedly OTT.

    Nice Poster though

    she's 6th billed.

Cheers Bruiser for the super poster. I thought the film was watchable, but certainly no classic.

It's been a number of years since I last saw The Desperados and it certainly was some curio with an unusual cast.

I have seen several of Kate O' Mara's films which she made at the beginning of her career these include Corruption (1967) with Peter Cushing, Sue Lloyd, Noel Trevarthen, David Lodge, Anthony Booth and Billy Murray.

Also The Limbo Line (1968) based on the Victor Canning book and which also starred Craig Stevens, Moira Redmond, Vladek Sheybal, Robert Urquhart, Norman Bird, Ferdy Mayne and Jean Marsh. A spy genre film which hasn't been shown on TV since the early-mid 1980's.

And as Hammer Horror buffs recall Kate made two Hammer films in 1970 (The Vampire Lovers & the Horror of Frankenstein).

A few months back I bought the DVD release of the first series of the TV series The Main Chance of which Kate O'Mara starred in 4 episodes but for some reason her character Julia Main was never brought back for the subsequent series.

I wouldn't mind seeing the 1968 short film that Kate O'Mara did called Promenade. I don't know whether this short film exists?

Kate has appeared a few times as the Rani in DOCTOR WHO. I met her once, and she was a lovely lady, more than happy to chat.

I watched The Desperadoes when the much missed Simply Movies showed it. Holy cow, it was really poor. At least they didn't make Kenny Cope do an American accent!

That's easily done Wearysloth, In your country the month comes before the date, so it's an easy mistake to make.

    Great pic of Kate.

Kate's sister is the actress Belinda Carroll.

Belinda was formerly the wife of Simon Williams and is now married to the actor Michael Cochrane.

She was very good. I wish her stories had been better written.

I love the fact that Kate doesn't take herself too seriously, and she has told some hilarious stories about working on Dynasty. An executive approached her looking panic stricken, and said, "Kate, we are very worried about your lips". It seems that they were far more concerned about the make up rather than the awful scripts.

I was thrilled to be in the same scene as Kate in Family Affairs, even if I was on the other side of the road (as an Extra). Earlier I opened a door for her and she gave me a radiant smile, lovely lady who looks better in the flesh.

Cheers Euryale for the pic of Kate's sister Belinda Carroll and for the information about her siblings. I don't believe I've ever seen any of her work.

Kate was appearing at the Buxton Opera House about Eight years ago. Dad said she walked past him.

Kate was excellent as The Rani in Dr Who ('Mark Of The Rani' and 'Time and The Rani').

Kate is in The Saint episode "The Counterfeit Countess" on ITV 4 next Monday if my information on Freeview is right. Alexandra Bastedo is in it too. And the extra girl called Pauline that Aitch identified on the ITC extra thread.

I did think that the woman's hand that picked up the Masters ring at the funeral pyre in the Last of the Time Lords belonged to the Ranni.

I saw Kate at The Opera House in Buxton in April 1996 when she appeared in "My Cousin Rachel". I met her at the stage door and she signed my programme against my back. What a lovely moment!
