I'm not usually in favour of remakes, but the original was such a mess that I would welcome another attempt.
The book deserves it.![]()
hey I heard a rumour that absolute beginners is going to be remade - any one else heard that... could be interesting if they stick to the book and dont make a cockney west side story again

my thoughts exactly - im'm not sure i have ever seen a fil adaptation so far removed from the original book
ive been informed that its an excellent book to read so it would be nice if they made a better attempt at making it into a film .
wasnt the first film directed by julian temple ?
It was the book is excellent the film a series of pop videos strung together with bad acting.Originally Posted by davidb
I think Absolue Beginners would make a good TV series, along the lines of The Long Firm or something ... then they could do Mr Love and Justice and City of Spades, too. All three deserve a good detailed treatment - not least because according to the IMDB in cinema terms Colin Macinnes is represented solely by that one frankly awful 'musical'.
If the remake is only half as good as the song I'd be happy

Absolutely. Heart-breaking opening song. Downhill from there, though.
there was a few bands who came up with some good songs for that film ,the style council's "ever had it blue " wasnt bad neither
I love the musical (Bowie, Lionel Blair and Irene Handl? Yes please!) but obviously a straight version of the book would make more sense, although I doubt I'd enjoy it as much.
Personally I think there is a lot to like about the film - the songs and the design are first rate, as are the supporting cast. The trouble is that the two leads are so woefully miscast and lacking in both chemistry and charisma that the whole effort sinks under their dead weight.
in a book wot i read about the 80s london mod scene a few mods and real fans of the book were cast as extras ,they thought the whole thing was going to pot just in the filming stage of things and were disgruntled at their treatment . it wasnt a surprise to them it bombed .
to be honest i think they would have real trouble finding a backer for such a movie wouldnt they ? the sceptre of the dire first effort casts such a big shadow .
i reckon it would be more of a tv thing
It's hard to imagine that anyone could do much worse than Temple did, so how bad could a remake be ? Having said that I think that "guitar mods" would do well to read the book first -for me the mood of the story is much more Miles Davis than Ham Yard.
It certainly seems to be a "Marmite" movie. People love it and hate it in about equal measure
