There is a thread for things we don't see anymore, but what about sounds from the bygone years that we don't hear anymore? For example, I can't remember when I last heard Muzak in a shop and I do mean real Muzak, not just any old music played over the tannoy!

Can you remember the sound old valve televisions used to make when they were switched off? The picture used to reduce to a tiny bright dot, and then blink off with a dull pop.
Also the back of an old tv had a distinctive warm smell from the glowing valves.

The sound and smell from my grandparents old McMichael stereo radiogram.
It was in our front room for years when I was a kid and it sounded fantastic.
But what was even better was the record deck area behind the door flap had a little light and it was leather lined.
The lovely smell that came from it always made me think of The Beatles. Mainly because it was the Fab 4 that I nearly always played on it, especially 'I Am The Walrus'.
