People who enjoyed Steve Chibnall's book on quota quickies will be pleased to hear that his sequel, The British B Film is out this month and is worth buying for the cover alone!

thanks for that i have been waiting for the publication of this book.Who would have ever thought sitting in the stalls in the ABC or Odeon in the 50s and 60s looking at some crime film starring Russell Napier or Charles Tingwall that one day a book would be issued by the BFI on these type of films.

So does this second book move on from the early quota quickies to the Butcher/Danziger etc second-features of the post-war years?

It's about the post- Quota Quickie period. The first book was very readable so I have high hopes for this one especially are the author will have been able to interview more survivors

This is the first book to provide a thorough examination of the British 'B' movie, from the war years to the 1960s. The authors draw on archival research, contemporary trade papers and interviews with key 'B' filmmakers to map the 'B' movie phenomenon both as artefact and as industry product, and as a reflection on their times.

Just had to mention that Brian McFarlane has co-authoured this one and he was working on it for a long time too.

And yes, that is a dandy cover.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, Captain. I've got the quota quickies book on the top of my pile of things to read, so will doubtless go for the new book too.

It is Torment (1950), with Rona Anderson and Dermot Walsh.

The cover looks like Dermot Walsh and Hazel Court in Ghost Ship. I could be wrong about the film title though.
