Alex has a go at Lord Dickie's classic film, much criticised by Salman Rushdie at others at the time of its release, perhaps because much of the finance for the film came from India and the Gandhi family .........

Seems a fair enough review. It does deserve some stick, but it is an uplifting film.

As movie biographies go, it is one of the more accurate ones and the discrepenies described in the article are not glaring. Of course they were gong to leave out Gandhi's controversial comments about the Holocaust because the focus of the movie was the struggle for India independence. I didn't think the portrayal of Jinnah was that negative although, of course, for dramatic purposes they emphasized their differences.

If you knew nothing else, you could conceivably walk away from the film thinking he was at solely fault for Partition.
