| British character actor and director adept at character roles requiring fussy eccentrics. Often to be found playing older than his years notably in the case of playing the father of Dick van Dyke in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, when in point of fact, van Dyke is actually a year older then Jeffries. First Men in the Moon is a favourite film of mine and finds Jeffries on top form as the hysterical (in several senses) mad scientist, Cavor. Also a delight in Murder Ahoy, Jeffries being one of the few actors capable of holding their own in the company of Margaret Rutherford. RIP. |
