Set in 1931; a mountain-dwelling loner (Bronson) pays to rescue a dog which is severely wounded after a dog-fight, despite the protests of its owner. This culminates in an attempt to accuse the new owner of murder, though the local law enforcement are reluctant to intervene.

Another teaming of former Dirty Dozen pals Bronson and Marvin is set against the backdrop of some beautiful photography in the snowy mountains of New Mexico, which believably stands in for Canada.
