Unjustly jailed Barrymore escapes and enacts vengeance on his malefactors using minaturized humans.
Wonderful little horror film wih an excellent performance by Barrymore and some macabre style courtesy Browning. O'Sullivan plays her usual tiresome whiny Camille, and Lawton is trying too hard to be Ronald Colman, but their love story subplot helped hide from the censors the fact that Barrymore actually gets away with his crimes. Indeed, this movie has a far more poignant ending than one would expect, especially from Browning.
Ottiano is also wonderful, looking like the love-spawn of the Bride of Frankenstein and Dr. Praetorius. Lionel's portrayal in drag of Madame Mandelip must have been the inspiration for Mrs. Doubtifre; the resemblance is uncanny!
