Dirty Mary Crazy Larry

Two washed-up Nascar racers turned thieves and a one-night stand go on the lam from cops after a supermarket heist. They evade the cops, both cars and helicopters, until . .

One of the better car chase films of the 70s, a decade that had plenty of them. Genuinely surprising ending, one that wouldn't be out of place in a 1930s "Crime Doesn't Pay" short. Whether you like it or not, it's memorable, to say the least. Apparently the studio was very unhappy, as they already had the sequel planned! Unfortunately the human drama is a little underwhelming - basically it boils down to Morrow being out-idioted by Fonda. And there is a certain macabre irony in Morrow riding around in a helicopter.

This movie had to have been a big influence on George Miller in making Mad Max: the ominipresent dispatcher, the obsessed cop and the high-speed Interceptor...also, the "mediocre" bit in Fury Road is certainly a homage to Susan George's smirking "Average" in response to Fonda's stunt jump early in the film.

Note: It's really tough to ID people in this movie, but I did my best.
