Not quite disappointing, but it's obvious the formula had been set for this sort of thing. The constant barrage of ignorant villagers becomes tedious very quickly, made even moreso by the fact that the party of Englishmen (and -women) making up the leads are pretty tedious drips themselves (the characters, not the actors. Who would find Suzan Farmer tedious?). Andrew Keir's angry monk is easily the best thing about this one. That, and the Eisenstein-inspired ending on the ice, which is still pretty impressive. If only the rest had been so.
