The Elephant Man

1980

David Lynch
Director
Paramount
Studio

The sorry tale of John Merrick whose alarming deformities earned him the name: The Elephant Man. A bit too much at times, but beautiful performances from Hurt and Hopkins and astonishingly wonderful black & white cinematography from Freddie Francis make this one of the best films of the early 80s. Maybe the only good film from the early 80s. A restrained David Lynch perhaps is a good thing? Discuss.
