Fantasia

1940

Ben Sharpsteen
Director

Heralded as Disney's masterpiece, this movie blends a collection of classical music with some superb (for its day) animation. Introduced and narrated by Deems Taylor, we are treated to composer Leopold Sotokwski conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra through eight well known classical tunes with the combined vision of Walt Disney's artists.

The musical numbers featured are:
1. Johann Sebastian Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor BWV 565
2. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Nutcracker Suite Op. 71a
3. Paul Dukas - The Sorcerer's Apprentice
4. Igor Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring
5. Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 6 in F, Op.68 "Pastorale"
6. Amilcare Ponchielli - La Gioconda: Dance of the Hours
7. Modest Mussorgsky - Night on Bald Mountain
8. Franz Schubert - Ave Maria
