A stockbroker is murdered when he tries to protect his girlfriend from what appears to be a random mugging on the dark streets of New York. As he wanders around in limbo after refusing entry into Heaven, he realises the attack was not random but very deliberate and soon discovers the man responsible is in league with one of his former best friends and now after the girlfriend he has left behind.
This film was called the surprise sleeper of 1990 and went on to win the Academy Awards for Best Screenplay Bruce Joel Rubin and Best Supporting Actress Whoopi Goldberg. ~ The Lord

The perfect romantic weepy. Explaining the plot makes the whole thing look ridiculous - because it is. Perfectly crafted and punctuated with nice comic bits courtesy of Whoopi Goldberg (sad to say this is STILL her best role), a hissable villain and Unchained Melody on top. You will cry and smooch. ~ The Sloth
