Son of the local devil worshipper conjures a few demons of his own. The video boom of the early 80s spawned a number of companies cashing in on the trend, among them, Empire Films, an outfit headed up by Charles Band. Clearly inspired by the likes of Roger Corman, Empire began a steady production of economical films often cashing in on a Hollywood archetype. Ghoulies aspires to be both Gremlins and Ghostbusters and fails. On the bright side though, the technical credits are all, for the budget, top notch, and the whole quite jaunty and fun. Let's face it Ghoulies is Citizen Kane in comparison to Sharknado. Watch out for Tamara De Treaux, who provided movement for E.T. DVD release is shorn of a few minutes gratuitous nudity and violence sadly. Strange, According to the BBFC site the original UK video release was actually 3 minutes shorter. Anyone? |
