Good girl and tough guy have summer romance. Instead of never seeing each other again, they end up at the same school, much to their chagrin and that of their friends. Both try to remake their image to suit the other, but is that what really matters? Watch and find out. Oh, there are songs, too... A movie whose continued popularity relies more on nostalgia and memories of generations of bad high school performances than any particular inherent greatness. The songs are admittedly catchy, but there are so many points that glare more brightly with each viewing: the fact that almost all these "high schoolers" are too old even for college; the "fat" girl who is skinnier than the skinny girls; the New Yawk accents in a movie set in southern California...the list could go on. But it does have energy and musical hooks that have kept it going for the past three decades. Also, it isn't Grease 2, which helps! Followed by Grease 2 four years later. |
