British POW Brooks (Reed) volunteers for work outside the Stalag, and ends up an assistant keeper at the Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich. When the zoo is bombed, Brooks is assinged to help evacuate an elephant to Innsbruck, thus earning his nickname.

Impressive and seemingly forgotten anti-war film, with equally excellent performances from Reed and Aida the elephant. Pollard is another story, though. Probably Michael Winner's finest effort, and rather hard to believe this was directed by the same guy who made Death Wish!
