The original great ape movie finally makes it to DVD just in time for Peter Jackson's mega-budget remake. While I've always admired the Empire-State-of-the-art special effects I could never see the central relationship working out, I mean, what would her parents say for one thing...?

-The Sloth

Remade twice, (one an awful relic of the Seventies, the other perhaps too reverent of the original), parodied and homaged many times, but never equaled. Whatever its supposed failings, it still resonates with us today, something few 84 year old films or books can say. One of the best films ever made.

Note: Quoting the AFI catalog page: . . .the cast list includes most of the featured bit players in the film, as indicated by daily studio production sheets, as well as selected names of the hundreds of extras who were used in the production. In many cases, actors played double or triple roles, and the above list may not indicate every part played by a given actor.
