North by Northwest

1959

Alfred Hitchcock
Director
MGM
Production Company

A mild-mannered advertising exec is mistaken a murderous agent and pursued by both goodies and baddies. For some the definitive Hitchcock thriller, and a fun rollercoaster it is to behold.

-The Sloth

Hitchcock at his finest--a perfect combination of visual and aural design, and the perfect idealization of the Fifites. There's a good reason that the book Eva Marie Saint is reading on the train is titled "The Agreeable Age." The cropduster sequence is still, after six decades of cinematic sound and fury, one of the most audacious uses of space and audio in cinema, especially on the big screen.
