| The first, illicit, filming of Stoker's novel was a 1922 German production that changed Count Dracula to Count Orlok in a dubious attempt to avoid legal action. The film was Nosferatu. The other notable difference in the telling was replacing Stoker's dignified Count with a genuinely disturbing rat-like thing as portrayed by Max Schreck. US Image release is tinted, the Kino release is B/W. The Eureka edition in the UK contains both. |
