With the power failing and food running out, two teens have to save the subterranean city of Ember from itself. In the wake of Harry Potter, another opulent children's fantasy in the style of Spiderwick Chronicles or Golden Compass although the model for this one seems to be THX 1138. Fox must have spent all their marketing dollars elsewhere, as this one came out under my radar. Entertaining, but like Golden compass, one feels one is watching an installment of a miniseries with no hope of seeing the rest. ~the sloth |
