Serial killer emulating the tales of Edgar Allan Poe leads to the real Poe teaming up with a Baltimore detective to stop him. Looks to be visually stylish, but even the trailer indicates it will amount to nothing more than the tired trope of the hero racing to rescue his beloved as the clock ticks. Yawn. Will likely be a major flop for Universal, much like another horror vehicle, The Wolfman, was two years ago. And, it need hardly be pointed out, Cusack's Poe bears about as much resemblance to the real drunk, melancholy and reclusive Poe as Michael Bay does to an inventive and daring director. -Dave W. |
