Assorted ladies and gents on the lam from the drug cartels find santuary on a seemingly abandoned oil rig. Alas, the rig has been used for dubious biological experiments. A latecomer to the mini monsters-at-sea vogue of the 80s (The Abyss, Leviathan, Deep Star Six), Proteus is derived from the novel Slimer by Harry Adam Knight, who under his real name, John Brosnan, would have thoroughly dismissed this film in his "It's Only a Movie" column in Cinema magazine. |
