A boy is recruited to a military elite, which his brother and sister have failed, and trained to fight an alien insect horde.

Fairly weak screen adaptation of a classic sci-fi novel, with indifferent performances and nice effects (just like most sci-fi films of late). Its poor performance at the box office probably was not helped by Orson Scott Card's dubious political viewpoints.

Not bad attempt to film a difficult multi-layered novel. The acting from a 'bunch-of-kids' is pretty good. Film suffers from the same problem the book does in that the finale is very clever but somewhat anti-climactic.
